Become a volunteer

Jeunesses Musicales of Canada (JMC) places great importance on the work of its volunteers. In our musical milieu, volunteers are seen as essential partners in the public’s initiation to music. Furthermore, volunteer work is an integral part of our activities and allows us to reach above and beyond our objectives. This relationship strengthens the mutual confidence between volunteers and employees, which allows us to work together in close collaboration.

Joining our team of volunteers enables you to meet new people, to be involved with youth, to contribute to the presentation of classical music, and to further the artistic education of future generations.

The stength of a network

Founded in 1949 by the late Gilles Lefebvre, Anaïs Allard-Rousseau, Laurette Desruisseaux-Boisvert, and Father J.H. Lemieux, Jeunesses Musicales of Canada is the largest presenter of classical music in the country.

Thanks to a network of over 300 volunteers that hosts its touring productions, JMC became one of the first organizations to present professional calibre concerts in outlying regions far from major urban centres. In so doing, since its inception, JMC has presented tens of thousands of concerts to young audiences, families, and the general public from coast to coast across Canada.

The strength and vitality of the great Jeunesses Musicales of Canada family essentially rests on this wonderful network of volunteers who, year after year, give life to the movement and make the dream of its founders possible. Concerts of very high quality are thereby presented in areas that, without a Jeunesses Musicales presence, would remain without classical music.

All of these volunteers are brought together in “JMC Centres” and, to a great extent, sustain the musical life of their respective regions. Over the years, JMC Centres have given young artists the opportunity to be heard, and have provided them with stage experience. These artists have gone on to have — and continue to have for the most part — a profound impact on the national and international music scenes. One need only think of such artists as Lyne Fortin, André Laplante, James Ehnes, Marie-Nicole Lemieux, Alexandre Da Costa, Maureen Forrester, James Campbell, Alain Trudel, Michèle Losier, Lara St. John, and Joseph Rouleau, to name but a few…

Do you want to join the big Jeunesses Musicales family and directly contribute to the support and career development of Canada’s finest young emerging artists? It couldn’t be any easier! Simply contact the JMC team closest to you!
