Wonny Song

Born in South Korea, Montreal pianist Wonny Song is one of Canada’s most illustrious young artists. Winner of the prestigious Young Canadian Music Award in 2010, the First Prize at the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 2005, the Prix d’Europe in 2003, and the Galaxie Rising Stars Award in 2002, he made his debut in Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall in New York in October 2005. Several other recent engagements deserve mention: tours of the United States, Japan, and South Korea, concerts in several cities throughout Canada, and a return to Carnegie Hall in New York. Not to mention two recitals in Salle Olivier-Messiaen at Maison de Radio France in Paris, and appearances last summer at the Festival de Lanaudière and the Orford Festival. He has also given many other concerts and recitals in Canada, France, Japan, Thailand, Italy, and Sweden.

Recording is an important part of Wonny Song’s career. He also took part in the “Les grands classiques d’Edgar” box sets, which have proven to be bestsellers in Canada. Other recording projects are in the works, including a recording of Mozart’s complete piano sonatas for the XXI-21 label.

A graduate of the University of Minnesota, the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, the Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Music, and the Glenn Gould Professional School in Toronto, Wonny Song studied with renowned teachers Anton Kuerti, Lydia Artymiw, Monique Deschaussées, and Marc Durand.
