Instrument: Harpsichord
Born in Montreal in 1981, Martin Robidoux began studying the harpsichord at the age of 12 and soon gave his first recitals at Château Ramsay, as part of the Debut Inc. series, and on Espace Musique. Upon completion of his studies with Mireille Lagacé at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, he graduated with great distinction. He won the 2001 Arthur-Andersen Prize awarded by the Wilfrid-Pelletier Foundation, and was the winner of the 2002 Jurow International Harpsichord Competition in the United States. In 2006, through the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, he was invited by harpsichordist and conductor Hervé Niquet to further his training in Paris. He also received counsel from Pierre Hantaï, Skip Sempé, and Andreas Staïer. He gave his first recital in Paris at the Hôtel de Soubise, as part of the Jeunes Talents series, followed by appearances at the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, at the Louvre, the Palais du Luxembourg, and as part of the prestigious Concerts Parisiens season organized by Philippe Maillard. In the summer of 2008, he premiered Pierre Février’s suites for harpsichord at the Festival Radio-France et Montpellier. In the summer of 2009, he made his debut as a conductor at the Orford Arts Centre Festival, and conducted Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s Messe pour le Port-Royal.
Martin Robidoux, with the financial support of Jeunesses Musicales of Canada, is currently completing his training at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris.
