Instrument: Alto and Tenor Trombone
François Lévesque is making a name for himself as a talented and versatile musician, proficient in many styles and genres ranging from classical to jazz, salsa to contemporary. In addition to being a first call symphonic freelancer with such groups as l’Orchestre symphonique de Québec and l’Orchestre symphonique de l’Estuaire, he has been Principal Trombone with the Vancouver Island Symphony, toured North America and Europe with the new music ensemble Aventa, and has accompanied several well known artists such as The Temptations, Wayne Newton, Richard Desjardins, and Diane Dufresne. As a member of Cascades Brass Quintet, François performed on CBC radio and the quintet won 1st prize at the Coleman International Chamber Ensemble Competition in 2005. François also played with the salsa group ¡Tanga! and performed at the 2006 Bali Art Festival in Indonesia with the UBC Balinese Gamelan Ensemble. Having graduated with distinction from the Conservatoire de musique de Québec, he later completed a Masters of Music from the University of British Columbia. Whatever the musical situation, François adds a keen musical mind, wonderful versatility and real pizzazz.
