Peter McGillivray has taken part in master classes at the Britten-Pears Young Artists Programme in Aldeburgh and has studied at the Steans Institute for Young Artists of the Ravinia Festival (Chicago), the Aspen Music Festival and the Tanglewood Institute. Last year he was awarded first prize in the vocal category and also won the People’s Choice Award at the 32nd CBC/Radio-Canada National Competition for Young Performers in Calgary. He is a member of the Canadian Opera Company’s (COC) Ensemble Studio, with which he made his professional debut last year as Aeneas in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. Among the roles he performs this season with the COC is Schaunard in Puccini’s La Bohème. He has won prizes at the Eckhardt-Gramatté Competition in 2002, the Lotte Lenya Singing Competition in 2003 and the Robert-Schumann International Competition for Pianists and Singers in 2004.
