Soprano

South Korean-born Sin Nyung Hwang won second prize at the Valsesia Viotti International Competition in 1998. In September of 2002, she received the Orfeon Pamplones Prize at the Julian Gayarre International Singing Competition in Pamplona, Spain. A few months later she sang the role of Barbarina in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva. In September 2003, she was the first prize winner at the Arles Singing Competition, France, and a finalist in the Queen Sonja International Competition in Oslo, Norway. Her 2005 schedule includes productions of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale in Brescia, Italy, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas in Marseilles and a Haydn mass in Besançon, France.

1- What do you like most about music? (Why did you decide to become a singer?)
I decided to become a singer because God gave me this talent. I like music, because it gives me the opportunity to interpret many different characters; it is exciting
and challenging.

2- Composers or works you particularly feel drawn to? (desert island type music?)
Beethoven's music is wonderful for me. For singing I like Donizetti and Bellini.

3- Who are your favourite singers and why?
Maria Callas. Why? You should know the answer to that question.

4- Your most intense musical moment?
Every time I sing is intense for me.

5- Anything else you would like to reveal about yourself?
In life we should never give up! That's why I am back! Ah! Ah! Ah!
